WORDS FOR LIFE
In the parable, when the rich man realised what his dishonest steward had been doing, he praised him for his astuteness, adding, perhaps sadly, that the people of this world are more astute in dealing with their own kind than are the people of light.
The Lord here wasn’t praising the shady dealings of the administrator, who, realising that he would soon be dismissed, reduced the debts of his master’s clients so that they would welcome him in their homes after his sacking. Rather he is admiring the astuteness and speed with which the steward recovers from the situation and doesn’t allow himself to be disheartened.
Nowadays, we aren’t surprised by people’s attempts to make money or climb up the social ladder or by the media’s methods and opinions which produce havoc and disharmony. Why don’t we Christians put in the same amount of effort to serve God and increase the resources available to the most needy and vulnerable in our society, for example; works of charity, generosity, guidance.. ?
