GOSPEL,  Luke 17, 5-10:

The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’ The Lord replied, ‘Were your faith the size of a mustard seed you could say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and it would obey you. ‘Which of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned from the fields, “Come and have your meal immediately”? Would he not be more likely to say, “Get my supper laid; make yourself tidy and wait on me while I eat and drink. You can eat and drink yourself afterwards”? Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told? So with you: when you have done all you have been told to do, say, “We are merely servants: we have done no more than our duty.”’

WORDS FOR LIFE

1.»Increase our faith,» the apostles petitioned the Lord.

2.God doesn’t force His presence onto us. In fact, our Lord’s existence and work aren’t always evident to us.

3.We might get a little nearer to God when we find ourselves surrounded by all the world’s beauty. Even the star-filled sky, the fish laden seas (sardines, bream, anchovies…), and the mountains teeming with deer, wild pig, rabbit, goat…), hardly encourage us to seek the origin of all this splendour. However, a little more thought and we would realise it was all the work of God, our Creator.

4.Sometimes we, believers, can find the hand of God working in some of the events of our lives. He not only helps us but we can feel His presence there.
