WORDS FOR LIFE
- According to the Gospel of St. Luke, the Lord is asked whether it is true that few people will be saved. Jesus replies, «Enter the Kingdom by the narrow door.» When we think of a narrow door, it could be like the main door into the Church on Palm Sunday when hundreds of people are trying to get through with their olive branches or on the first day of sales in a big departmental store.
- But Jesus isn’t thinking in theses terms. What Jesus is saying is that we have a choice: either the wide door which leads down the road of selfishness and eventual condemnation or the narrow one which sends us along the path of self-denial, effort, self-discipline and selflessness.
- In fact, the Lord is telling us that it is best to deny ourselves, to love and seek truth and justice, and to act always in favour of peace and reconciliation.
